Namaari doesn't point her crossbow at Sisu, until Sisu takes a step towards her. ![]() What's worth noting in this scene is Namaari's hesitancy to act on her threat, and that her threat was initially aimed at Raya. ![]() The necklace is from a time when she was still truly a child. With her loss of childhood, went her loss of faith. After attacking Raya, Namaari tells her, "in a different world, maybe we could have been friends, but I have to do what's right for Fang." From then on Namaari is no longer a child princess, but a warrior. Could the necklace represent not only Namaari's faith, but also her loss of innocence? She gives it to Raya in the beginning, and then she essentially becomes a child solider. It's interesting that she receives it at this point, just as her faith in Sisu is beginning to be restored. Namaari then receives her old necklace back as a gift and invitation to meet. Her faith in the dragons supersedes her mission, and Chief Virana has to redirect her thinking. She doesn't relay this information in a direct and informative tone like a warrior, but rather in a passionate, almost childlike, excitement. She says nothing about Raya, or the gem pieces, or their altercation. Then upon returning back to Fang, the first thing she tells Chief Virana is that she saw Sisu. When Namaari is confronted by Sisu in Spine, she stares in awe. At this point Namaari still displays respect for the dragons passed, even if there is no belief in Sisu's return. She also does this as a child when she first sees the Dragon Gem. Upon exiting the graveyard, Namaari then bows displaying the Dragon Gem hand gesture. Namaari brings the team to a halt, and they walk through at a slow pace in reverence to the dragons. After failing to capture Raya, Namaari and her team are in a rush to return back to Fang, but arrive at the dragon graveyard. That is what the audience is lead to believe until a few scenes later. In fact when she and Raya meet again, she mocks Raya asking, "are you really looking for Sisu? What are you 12?" Not only is this a callback to their first meeting, but it also suggests that Namaari likens such beliefs to childhood fantasy. When we first see Namaari six years after the betrayal, she no longer believes in Sisu like she did as a child. Why would she threaten Sisu? I believe it's Namaari's inner turmoil finally surfacing. Even Chief Virana wanted the gem pieces and Sisu. Why does she do it? It would make no sense to kill the dragon that the whole world recognizes as their last hope. So when Sisu is shot, technically at Namaari's hands, it's very jarring. Her respect for the dragons is shown multiple times through out the film. The film portrays Namaari as what I would call, a deeply spiritual individual with wavering belief in that spirituality. *I'm listening to the soundtrack while I work, and one of my favorite pieces is Dragon Graveyard. The soundtrack album features the film’s original music composed by James Newton Howard, who has previously composed music for “The Hunger Games”, “King Kong”, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” and “Maleficent”.Īlso included on the soundtrack is the film’s original song “Lead the Way” which has been written and performed by Jhené Aiko.I've posted the piece below as well. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than a dragon to save the world-it’s going to take trust and teamwork as well. Now, 500 years later, that same evil has returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. “Raya and the Last Dragon” takes us on an exciting, epic journey to the fantasy world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons lived together long ago in harmony. Disney has released the soundtrack to the upcoming Walt Disney Animation movie “Raya and the Last Dragon”, which will be coming to cinemas and to Disney+ Premier Access on March 5th.
